Press Release: ToolsOnAir joins SRT Alliance

Accelerating ingest and post-production workflows with full support for the SRT streaming protocol.

Vienna, Austria, February 22, 2021 – ToolsOnAir today announced that it has joined the SRT Alliance, an open-source initiative dedicated to overcoming the challenges of low-latency video streaming. This announcement perfectly complements the recent launch of the new and innovative version 5.0 of ToolsOnAir’s enterprise-grade just:in linux multi-channel ingest appliance, which adds full support for the SRT streaming protocol.

With the new version 5.0 of just:in linux, our customers can now benefit from the combination of already existing baseband ingest recording capabilities over SDI and HDMI and the new addition of SRT and NDI® input sources. Each incoming SRT stream can be recorded in real-time into industry-standard formats such as AVC-I, XDCAM, DNxHD/HR, ProRes, and Uncompressed, in matching MOV, MXF, MP4/MPEG-TS or AVI containers, up to UHD2 resolution, with full growing file support in qualified NLEs.

The SRT Alliance, founded by Haivision in April 2017, is dedicated to its mission to overcome the challenges of low-latency live streaming by supporting and enabling the collaborative development of the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) protocol. SRT is a free, open-source video transport protocol and technology stack originally developed and pioneered by Haivision that enables the delivery of high-quality, secure, low-latency video across the public internet. With more than 450 members in the SRT Alliance and widespread industry adoption, SRT is the fastest-growing open-source streaming project.

“During the roadmap design of IP streaming input support in our upcoming version 5.0, we looked at the specifications of SRT and soon agreed on the significant benefits that the SRT protocol would add to our flagship ingest solution just:in linux, to meet the expectations of future-oriented IP-based production workflows.” shared Christian Schabasser, Senior Ingest Product Manager at ToolsOnAir.

“We’re excited that ToolsOnAir is joining the SRT Alliance community.” said Jesús (Suso) Carrillo, Director SRT Alliance, Haivision.
“By adding the SRT protocol into their just:in linux ingest solution, ToolsOnAir is providing its customers a best-in-class multi-channel recording experience.”

About the SRT Alliance

The SRT Alliance is a collaborative community of industry leaders and developers striving to achieve lower latency internet video transport by continuously improving SRT, an open-source video transport protocol and technology stack. Originally developed and pioneered by Haivision, SRT optimizes streaming performance across unpredictable networks with secure streams and easy firewall traversal, bringing the best quality live video over the worst networks. Haivision was awarded an Emmy® for Technology and Engineering from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for developing the SRT protocol.
