We assume that you have been configuring all machines using the Requirements we have listed in the previous chapters, and that you have followed the recommendations given by the video device vendors regarding the installation of their hardware. Verify this with the following checklist:
The operating system is configured properly.
The hardware is installed/connected properly.
The required video device drivers have been installed, configured and tested.
The installation provides a fully functional demo of our playout applications and the final output will display a watermark. You have to acquire a license to disable the watermark. Please → contact us directly.
macOS Gatekeeper/Security & Privacy
Before the installation can start, it may be necessary to disable Apple's macOS Gatekeeper temporarily. When opening one of the playout applications for the first time, it will be verified by the operating system, so please verify that depending on your macOS system version, either the “App Store and identified developers” or “App Store & Known Developers” option is selected.
Installation
Refer to Getting Started for the installation process.
Optional: Install the Template Package which adds a basic set of Realtime Graphics Templates.
We recommend NOT to run the Composition Builder application (our real-time graphics template creation tool) and the Just Play Lite application on the same machine running at the same time. Run the Composition Builder application on another available Mac if possible. Running the Composition Builder and Just Play Lite applications at the same time on the same Mac may terminate a running playout!
Installing a new Version over an existing Version
Basically, a new installation and updating an older version works the same. But there are a few things you maybe would like to keep in mind when updating to a new version.
1. Preparations
Make a backup of the current installation. The best would be a full backup of the startup disk to another disk. Otherwise, copy the Channel folder which can be found at “/Users/YourUserName/Library/Containers/Just Play Lite/Data/Library/Application Support/ToolsOnAir/Just Play Lite” to another storage device.
Make sure you have a valid activation code for the new version. Please → contact us if you do not have a valid activation code.
Download the new playout software version, as well as the latest Video device driver and all other driver updates you may need during the installation.
2. Stop the Current Playout
Quit the Just Play Lite playout applications.
Quitting the Just Play Lite application will stop the current playout!
3. Update the Operating System and the Video Device Drivers
Check which OS version is recommended for the new playout software version from the installer. With version 2026.x we support macOS Sequoia and macOS Tahoe (recommended), which you can download from Apple's App Store.
On macOS Sequoia (15.6.x) or macOS Tahoe (26.x), go to the “Apple” menu, select “System Settings”, and click on “General → Software Update”.
Make sure to install all available updates for your software until there are no updates left.
Uninstall the current version using the AJA/Blackmagic Design Uninstall Application and restart the Mac.
Install the latest Video device driver version and all other drivers you may have to update.
Restart the Mac and make sure the Firmware of your Video device is the latest version available.
4. Update the ToolsOnAir Software Versions
Extract the downloaded Playout Software and open the disk image (.dmg).
Drag and drop the Just Play Lite folder onto the Applications folder, as described above.
While copying, click on “Replace” if you get a warning that the application already exists.
5. Activate the New Version
Once the new version has finished copying, start the Just Play Lite application.
Follow the instructions in Chapter Activate/De-Activate the Channel to activate the new version.
6. Start the Playout
Start the Just Play Lite application.
In case you are asked to update the System, agree to do so.
